SLIDELL -- Two 8th-inning walks turned into a run on a Slidell error as Walker topped the Tigers 4-3 on Thursday to kick off the Northshore Tournament.

The Wildcats (3-0) pushed the game-winning run home after Graham Smith drew a leadoff walk, Lane Thomas chopped into a fielder’s choice, Tristan Vaughn walked and Slidell’s right fielder misplayed a liner off the bat of Dakota Wilson to send Thomas dashing home with two outs.

Chase Jeansonne made the one-run lead stand up when he struck out the Tigers’ side in the last of the 8th to finish a dominant 1.2-inning relief stint – five batters faced, 5 Ks – for his first win of the season.

In a game with only nine hits between the two teams, the Wildcats erased an early deficit and took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd inning. Smith reached on an error, Thomas walked, Vaughn bunted both runners up and Slidell starter James Oates loaded the bases when he plunked Tristan Taylor.

Wilson chased in the tying run on a sharp grounder that the Tigers didn’t turn into a double play. With two outs, Jeansonne rifled an RBI single to left field to put Walker in front.

The lead grew to 3-1 in the 4th frame when Cameron Palmer slammed a solo home run to right field, his 2nd this season.

Slidell (1-2) pulled even in the bottom of that inning with a pair of two-out runs. Reliever Blade Thompson nearly got starter Gavin Adams off the hook when he induced a 1-2-3 double play, but the next hitter, Cameron Weiss, pumped a two-run single to right field to knot the score, 3-3.

Cody King came on to snuff out a bases-loaded jam in the 5th inning and logged a clean 6th inning before giving way to Jeansonne in the 7th.

Thomas collected Walker’s two other hits. The Wildcats worked Slidell pitching for 9 walks.

Walker is back in action at 3:30 p.m. Friday when it takes on St. Thomas Aquinas back in Slidell.
