DENHAM SPRINGS – The Merry-Go-Round that’s been Walker High’s starting lineup the past two weeks got two familiar faces back on board and lost another in Tuesday’s nondistrict matchup with arch-rival Denham Springs.
After his first season together with junior wide receiver Brian Thomas, Walker High coach Chad Mahaffey can’t wait for another year together.
DENHAM SPRINGS – Little had he realized the achievement when Denham Springs High’s Brennan Amato left the field Friday at Yellow Jackets Stadium and his team holding a commanding five-goal halftime lead.
WALKER – Over a 1 ½ minute stretch of the second quarter Walker High’s Warren Young Jr. found himself in almost the exact same spot on the floor.

WALKER -- For a football program seeking its first postseason win in more than two decades, it seemed like the perfect match when Walker High hired one of the Baton Rouge’s most successful coaches.
WALKER – No, Walker wasn’t in midseason form in its scrimmage with Slidell, but first-year Wildcats coach Chad Mahaffey saw some flashes of what his team is capable of and now has a body of work against outside competition he and his coaching staff can build on heading into next week’s jamboree.
It made for a compelling Week 3 matchup last season when Walker, which led at halftime, needed a fourth-quarter rally and an interception return for a touchdown in a pulsating 40-38 victory over Slidell.
