Jered Poland of Walker qualifies for the Div. I State Swim Meet on Sunday in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Capital City Swim League meet.

BATON ROUGE – Walker High senior Jered Poland continued leaving his mark on the record book by setting a school record and qualifying for the Div. I-5A state Swim Meet last weekend.

Poland recorded a 58.89 in the 100 butterfly at the Capital City Swim League meet on Sept. 22.

That broke the Walker High School record set by Tristan Wilkinson in 2014 at 1:00.10. It also gave Poland his second state qualifying time; having already qualified in the 100 breaststroke.

“Walker will be swimming on Oct. 2 in Hammond with Ponchatoula, Northlake Christian and St. Thomas Aquinas from the New Orleans Swim League’s Northshore District,” said Kevin Fambrough, Walker swim coach.

“Jered has another obligation, so he asked if he could take part in the Sept. 22 CCSL meet that Walker was originally scheduled to be in,” he said.

Poland took second in the 100 butterfly then came back to win the 500 free in 5:22.47 at the CCSL meet.

Holden, led by freshman Hannah Hirstius, will be joining Walker at the Hammond meet.

Denham Springs and Live Oak will be competing Saturday in the CCSL meet. Other teams scheduled to compete are Catholic, St. Joseph’s, Dutchtown, East Ascension and St. Amant.
