BATON ROUGE – A pair of first-place finishes from Eric King highlighted a successful showing for Zachary’s swim teams at last Saturday’s Capital City Swim League Meet at Crawfish Aquatics.
King took first place in both the 100 freestyle (50.83) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.94), helping the Broncos to a third place showing in the 11-team event.
Baton Rouge High’s boys and girls won both divisions with 348 and 383 points, respectively. Central's first were seventh with 24 points, while the Wildcats were 11th with 19 points.
The Lady Broncos were fifth out of 10 teams with 243 ½ points.
King’s times in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke also qualified him for the Division I (Class 5A) state swim meet, along with Aiden Peterkin in the 100 butterfly (51.97) and Karlie Porter in the 50 freestyle (27.53).
According to Zachary coach Julie Johnson, her two teams achieved a total of 24 personal best times.
The Zachary boys’ 200 freestyle relay (1:37.83) captured their event and was third in the 200-medley relay (1:55.00).
Hudson Trotti was also third in the 500 freestyle (6:58.39)
Peterkin finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.25) and third in the 100 butterfly (59.17), while Porter was third in the 100 freestyle (1:00.11).
The Lady Broncos’ 200-freestyle (1:56.35) and 200-medley (2:13.32) relays teams both placed third.
Zachary also had eight other swimmers that compiled top-8 finishes in their respective events: Tristan Vessell, Logan Ladnier, Aiden Bowen, Abby Yoes, Joshua Wittig, Baska Jasicova, Jack Dunford and Ella Thompson.
