SCOTLANDVILLE -- A late turnover wiped out a chance to tie the game or go ahead in the closing minute Tuesday as Live Oak dropped a 51-49 decision at Scotlandville.

The Lady Eagles scratched and clawed all night, but trailed most of the second and third quarters before staging a comeback.

Dijone Flowers kept Live Oak (15-13, 1-4 District 4-5A) in the game from the start by hitting three 3-pointers in a period that ended in a 9-9 tie.

The Lady Hornets (19-10, 4-1) crept in front 19-15 by halftime and gradually pushed the lead to 34-27 as the game entered the final frame.

Flowers got some help from Harmony Johnson in a 22-point outburst in the last quarter. Johnson scored 8 points to go with Flowers’ 10, which got Live Oak in range.

But the late giveaway, as well as turnovers and missed free throws, kept the Lady Eagles from finishing the rally.

With her big opening and closing salvos, Flowers led Live Oak with 29 points. Johnson added 16.

Scotlandville plays host to district leader Zachary at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Eagles are back home Friday vs. Belaire at 6 p.m. Friday.
